They are thought to represent ancient fertility goddesses and are characteristically depicted with generous female attributes. Bill Watterson, the creator of the beloved Calvin and Hobbes comic strip, and highly private artist who has long been unwilling to subscribe to widespread merchandising of his characters, has an original work that will be available for auction. Watterson’s art has largely been unavailable, and who’s original work is only rivaled by Charles Schulz’s Peanuts strip. This watercolor is predicted to fetch an upward of $50,000 USD.

Nokia Flexible User Interface Prototype

The Nokia “Kinetic Device” made its debut at the Nokia World show in London recently. Two years in the making, this gesture-based gadget lacks keys or buttons in favor of a thin flat OLED screen, which executes commands when the body of the device is flexed. Experimental carbon nanotubes within the device allow it to be twisted and warped to scroll through photo albums or stop and play music. Designer Tapani Jokinen maintains that this Kinetic Device will likely not see production soon but represents the tip of the innovation iceberg from the Scandinavian mobile company.

Why Street Art Matters

Some city councils get it, others don’t. Tapping the creative talents of street artists, illustrators and graphic designers is an effective and cool way to make bland public spaces, old buildings, bridges and car parks new again, and to freshen up the concrete jungle.

It is also an effective way of keeping graffiti away. Plus it draws attention to the building or structure as “potential” not as something to be hated. Maybe it will even bring a buyer, a new occupant or additional creative ideas about how to revitalize the building? Anything but the current dilapidated state of abandoned spaces!
